Claude Haiku 4.5 pricing through Vana API: $0.3472 per 1M

Money mattersEN2026-10-31

§ One address, three protocols, and very little to set up

The whole subject of this guide is a number you can check before you spend anything. Vana API lists Claude Haiku 4.5 at $0.3472 / $1.60 per million tokens, while the official list price is $1 / $5. Everything below starts from those figures and nothing else. If you want a worked example rather than a promise, this is the page for that.

What makes the arithmetic easy to act on is the shape of the service. Vana API is reached at https://api.vanaapi.com, and that single address answers three protocols. For this model, that means Anthropic Messages (/v1/messages), spoken directly by official Claude Code or Claude Desktop, version 2.1.285 or later. There is no separate endpoint to remember and no separate account to open.

Keys are created in the dashboard at https://vanaapi.com, which is also where balance and the usage log live. The address itself only answers API requests. So the setup order is short: create a key, put it in the client, send the first call, and read the entry that appears in the usage log. That log is what makes the weekly figure below verifiable rather than estimated.

Billing is prepaid and charged per real token, with no monthly fee. That suits a decision guide, because you pay for the calls you actually make and you can see each one listed. On sign-up there is $0.10 of credit, which is enough to run the first small checks before committing anything further.

§ The unit prices, and where the saving comes from

Claude Haiku 4.5 (model id claude-haiku-4-5-20251001) costs $0.3472 per million input tokens and $1.60 per million output tokens on Vana API. The official list price for the same model is $1 / $5. Vana API does not change the model or the call format; it changes what you pay per token, and it keeps the accounting visible.

For context, the same pattern holds across the other Claude models on the price list. Claude Sonnet 5.5 (model id claude-sonnet-5-5) is $1.18 / $5.76 on Vana API against $3 / $15 on the official list. Claude Opus 5.5 (model id claude-opus-5-5) is $1.46 / $6.94 against $4 / $20. Claude Fable 5.1 (model id claude-fable-5-1) is $3.33 / $16.74 against $10 / $50. Haiku 4.5 sits at the low end of that set, which is why a whole week of it can be costed in a few lines.

Each of these Claude models is used only from official Claude Code or Claude Desktop, version 2.1.285 or later, which speak Anthropic Messages (/v1/messages) themselves. That is the entire protocol story for this family: one address, one protocol, one client requirement. Nothing else needs to be configured to reach Claude Haiku 4.5 through Vana API.

§ A sample week, worked out

Here is a concrete example. Say you run this every day for five working days, and each day sends 2,000,000 input tokens and 500,000 output tokens. That is an example workload, not a claim about what anyone runs; the point is to show the arithmetic so you can substitute your own numbers.

Input first. Five days at 2,000,000 input tokens a day is 10,000,000 input tokens for the week. At $0.3472 per million, 10,000,000 divided by 1,000,000 is 10, and 10 multiplied by $0.3472 is $3.472 of input cost for the week.

Output next. Five days at 500,000 output tokens a day is 2,500,000 output tokens for the week. At $1.60 per million, 2,500,000 divided by 1,000,000 is 2.5, and 2.5 multiplied by $1.60 is $4.00 of output cost. Adding the two, $3.472 plus $4.00 is $7.472 for the week on Vana API.

The same week at the official list price of $1 / $5 would be 10 multiplied by $1, which is $10.00 of input, plus 2.5 multiplied by $5, which is $12.50 of output, so $22.50 in total. The difference is not a discount code or a special offer; it is the unit price, and the usage log in the dashboard at https://vanaapi.com shows the calls that produce it.

§ Choosing between pay-as-you-go and a monthly plan

Vana API offers two ways to pay, and the choice is a matter of volume. Pay-as-you-go is prepaid balance, charged per real token, with no monthly fee. Every call is listed in the usage log. That is the natural fit for the week above, which comes to $7.472, and for anyone whose traffic moves around.

Monthly plans are there when a week is consistently heavy. The Claude $1,000 / 30 days plan is $64.72 for 30 days, with at most $320 a week, and covers Claude models only. The Claude $2,400 / 30 days plan is $153.61 for 30 days, with at most $750 a week, also Claude models only. Both are stated as allowance and price on the fact sheet, so you can compare them directly against your own weekly totals.

A simple rule follows. If a week like the example, at $7.472, is typical, prepaid balance keeps the commitment small and the log tells you exactly where it went. If your weeks sit well above the plan's weekly figure, the plan is the option to look at. Vana API does not ask you to guess in advance; the unit prices and the plan figures are both on the table.

§ Refunds, referrals, and the rest of the decision

Two details matter before you commit a larger top-up. Unused balance can be refunded within 3 days of the top-up, minus what was used and the payment processor's fee. That keeps a trial period low-risk, especially alongside the $0.10 of credit given on sign-up.

There is also a referral arrangement: 14% of what people you invite pay, and 5% one level further, with earnings withdrawable from $13.89. That is separate from the token prices and does not change the arithmetic above, but it is part of the full cost picture for someone building on Vana API over time.

So the decision criteria are these. First, confirm the client: Claude Haiku 4.5 is used only from official Claude Code or Claude Desktop, version 2.1.285 or later. Second, take your own weekly input and output tokens and apply $0.3472 and $1.60 per million, as shown. Third, compare that total with the prepaid route or with a Claude monthly plan, whichever fits the volume. Fourth, keep an eye on the usage log at https://vanaapi.com, where each call is listed. One address, three protocols, and a price you can work out before you start.
